Injured soldier succumbs, militant arrested in Baramulla operation

Srinagar: A suspected local militant was arrested on Thursday during a search operation in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir where a militant and a soldier were injured in fighting a day earlier.

Police said the injured soldier succumbed to his injuries today.

The gunfight broke out Wanseeran Taripora on Wednesday afternoon when security forces were carrying out an operation.

“Acting on specific information regarding presence of terrorists joint teams of Police, Army and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in the area. During search the terrorists taking fired upon the search party, which was retaliated triggering off an encounter. During the ensuing encounter one jawan of 52 RR got injured and was evacuated for medical treatment, who later on attained martyrdom,” a police statement said.

“One terrorist of LeT namely Nisar Ahmad Bhat of Shrakwara Kreeri, District Baramulla was apprehended during the search operation,” he added.

Police said a Pakistani militant Usman, who is wanted in various cases, is being pursued.

“A modified AKS 74u, a magazine, 28 rounds were among other incriminating materials have been recovered from the apprehended terrorist,” the statement said.

Earlier the day, Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar said a Pakistani terrorist, who was injured in the gunfight is still trapped in the area and a massive search operation is going on to trace him.
