Polling began for Dhamnagar Assembly constituency

Bhubaneswar: The voting for Dhamnagar (SC) Assembly by-poll began at 7 AM on Thursday after a mock poll at 5.30 AM.

The voting would continue till 6 PM.

Chief Electoral Office Sources here said 10.25 pc polling was recorded by 9 AM.

Before the polling started enthusiastic voters including old and women were seen standing in queues in front of their polling stations to cast their votes.

As per the information, available polling is going on smoothly so far without any untoward incident reported from anywhere.

As many as 2,38,417 Voters consisting of 1,23,038 males, 1,15,346 females and 33 Trans genders are scheduled to exercise their franchise in 252 booths to decide the fate of five candidates contesting the election.

Abanti Das (BJD), Survansi Suraj (BJP), Baba Harekrushna Sethi (Congress), Pavitra Mohan Das (Ind) and Rajendra Kumar Das (Ind) are in the fray.

The by-poll was necessitated following the death of BJP sitting MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi in September last.

Out of the 252 booths, 110 booths have been identified as sensitive. Arrangements have been made for Webcasting in 126 booths.

As many as 25 Micro Observers 997 Police Personnel including Officers, Armed Police, Havildar, Constables and Home guards and 4 companies of CAPF, 1008 Polling officers have been deployed for the smooth conduct of the Poll.

Special arrangements have been made for the transportation of PwD voters from their houses to booths and back.
