Kolkata: West Bengal ruling All India Trinamool Congress has opposed the ECI’s proposed plan to introduce remote voting to improve the voter participation, saying a hasty decision to chart into the territory of remote voting will have potentially damaging effects.

” Remote voting aside from the legal caveats of who is a ” domestic migrant” raises pertinent questions on the transparency and sanctity of the entire election process,” AITC’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI), said.

” I have personal apprehensions regarding the same and out of my concern for the sanctity of the election process, I wish to oppose the introduction of such a move,” the letter of January 10, was released on Wednesday by the AITC.

A separate media report said that most parties oppose the remote voting plan, the ECI puts off demonstrations with parties demanding more in-depth discussion on the matter.

The EC put off the demonstration of a prototype Remote Voting Machine (RVM), which was scheduled after remarks by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and a presentation on remote voting.
