In many countries across the globe including the USA, overweight people have to suffer from bad treatment more than diseases. On top of this, they are belittled in the medical systems which they go to. As a matter of fact, bad treatment towards overweight people has taken the form of an epidemic.

It has been found out in a recently conducted research survey of which 14000 people were made a part of, across 6 countries, under an obesity management programme, that 50% of the participants were made to feel ashamed for being overweight, and 2/3rd of them had to face similar behaviours on the part of their doctors. Children who are overweight are teased at public places like parks, schools, and colleges. But what is more startling is that such children are teased by well-educated doctors along with common people.

This month, the American Academy of Pediatrics, for the first time, has launched a guideline for the treatment of overweight children and teenagers, which is under question. The academy is of the opinion that most of the attempts to lose weight by changing the lifestyle proved to be unsuccessful among all the age groups, and therefore, young children have been involved under the ambit of medication and bariatric surgeries.

According to a study conducted in Australia, the chances of food-related illnesses increasing among teenaged girls who diet is 18 times higher.
