Police seize a huge contraband & arms from poll-bound Tripura

Agartala: Tripura Police seized contraband items worth Rs 5.89 Cr and a number of small arms from the poll bound state in last month.

Security forces seized two country made guns, one 7.65 mm pistol, 46 ammunition from separate locations. Also, recovered 17 lakh of Indian currency, 14257 Bangladeshi currency, police said in a release on Wednesday.

They seized contraband of Rs 5.89 crores including 11,161 kgs of cannabis, 138 grams heroin, 12, 945 Yaba Tablet , 9600 bottles of cough syrups, 3850 bottles of India Made Foreign Liquor, 25050 liters of country made liquor.

In order to maintain law and order special enforcements have been continued in view of the assembly election.

Initially 100 Company of CAPF were deployed to ensure extensive security coverage of interior areas of the state a month ago along with an additional 100 companies in urban areas.

Another 200 companies of CAPF are likely to arrive in a couple of days, statement mentioned adding, “They will be mobilized for area domination, patrolling, flag march, vehicular patrolling, Naka duty, raids apart from counter insurgency operations.”

After the announcement of assembly election on January 18 last, a total 192 Naka points have been erected across the state.

“Naka checking is going on regularly in all naka points along with special vehicle checking for ten days and so far over 11000 vehicles were checked”, it stated.

As part of the preventive action a huge number of Prosecution Reports have been submitted to

bind down habitual offenders. More than 700 PRs were submitted U/S 107 CrPC till now.

In order to build a sense of security among the voters so far more than 1700 flag marches/ area domination patrolling have been done with joint participation of State police, TSR and CAPF.
