In the wake of the rapidly increasing body weight of the teenagers in Britain, the country’s government, back in 2018, had imposed a ‘sugar tax’ on the cold-drink companies. Now, in a study regarding its effect, it has been found out that among girls aged 10-11, who are school students, an 8% reduction in obesity has been recorded, while no effect has been seen on the boys. As per the study, around 5000 cases of obesity have been curbed with the tax imposition.

Body weight increases with drinks having a lot of sugars, and because of the taxes levied on the soft-drinks in Britain, the amount of sugar have now been reduced in the same, and therefore, this fact has come to the surface that the cases of obesity have come down as well. The British Nutrition Foundation’s scientist, Simon Stein has said that it is difficult to attribute changes in obesity levels directly to a single factor. He added that announcement and implementation of the sugar tax should be made for other products being consumed on a regular basis like biscuits, snacks, grains, curd, and confectionary items, so that sugar cuts are made in the same as well.
