Former VHP TN unit Vice-President RBVS Manian arrested for derogatory speech on Ambedkar, Thiruvalluvar

Chennai: Former Vice-President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Tamil Nadu unit RBVS Manian was arrested by the on Thursday for allegedly making some derogatory remarks about the architect of Indian Constitution B.R. Ambedkar and saint Tamil poet Thiruvalluvr.

Acting on the complaint lodged by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) functionary Selvam the Chennai City police registered a case against the prominent VHP functionary under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the IPC for offences including causing disturbance to public tranquility and creating hatred between two groups.

The 76-year-old leader was arrested from his T.Nagar residence in the city. He was later produced before a Saidapet Magistrate Court and remanded in judicial custody.

A police release said “In order to take appropriate action against RBVS Manian for defamation about Thiruvalluvar and Ambedkar, a case was registered and an investigation was carried out on the basis of a complaint filed by Selvam from Choolai in Chennai at Mambalam Police Station.”

“The police team led by Inspector of Police Mambalam Police Station conducted a thorough investigation and arrested Mr Manian, involved in the above case. The arrested accused Manian was produced before the court today (14.09.2023) and sent to judicial custody as per the court order”, it said.

Mr Manian, who has been delivering spiritual discourses for several years, during an event on September 11, made derogatory speeches about Ambedkar and Thiruvallur besides upholding Sanatana Dharma.

He also belittled the scheduled caste community people, police said, adding his speech has gone viral in the social media. drew flak.
