Moscow: The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is likely to be opened on Saturday for evacuations, CNN reported, citing US State Department spokesperson and emails.

“We are working with our Israeli and Egyptian partners to establish a safe humanitarian corridor both for Gazans trying to flee this war and to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches those in need within the territory,” a State Department spokesperson told CNN.

The broadcaster also cited emails sent by the State Department’s Consular Affairs Crisis Management System to some Palestinian-Americans with family members stuck in Gaza, saying that they may be able to evacuate into Egypt on Saturday afternoon.

AFP also reported, citing an unnamed US official, that Israel and Egypt agreed to allow US citizens to cross the Rafah border crossing on Saturday.

According to the report, the Rafah border crossing would be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time.
