Chennai: The Madras High Court has issued summons to Tamil Nadu Home Secretary
P. Amudha, State Director-General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal and some other police officials

for not complying with the court orders directing the police to grant permission for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) route marches at various places across the State.

Ordering issuance of notices directing them to appear before the court by four weeks on a batch of five contempt of court petitions for not obeying the court order, Mr Justice G. Jayachandran ordered that all the officials named in the contempt pleas should be present in the court after four weeks.

Mr. Rajagopal, representing the RSS, brought it to the notice of the judge that the court had passed a common order on October 16, 2023, directing the police to grant permission for the route marches in 35 places on October 22 and 29, 2023.

However, in blatant disobedience of the judicial order, no such permission was granted, he submitted.

In his submission, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) R. Muniyapparaj informed the court that appeals filed against the High Court order were expected to be listed for hearing before the Supreme Court on November 3 and sought some time to obtain further instructions from the officials.

However, the judge refused to accept the request and ordered issuance of notice to those named in the contempt pleas.
