Ayodhya (UP): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said the first phase of construction of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport will be completed by December 15.

Yogi, who was accompanied by Central Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Central Minister of State VK Singh, inspected the ongoing construction at the Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya.

The officials, during their visit, not only observed presentations regarding the airport’s construction, but also engaged in a review meeting with key officials.

Later while talking to the media, the CM said Ayodhya is emerging as an epitome of new India, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the sacred city of Lord Ram. “Initially, Ayodhya had a modest airstrip spanning 178 acres, but now, it is being built as a major international airport,” he said.

He said the state government has provided 821 acres of land and work was going on war-footing to build the airport under the supervision of the Airport Authority of India. Emphasizing commitment to Ayodhya’s development, he assured the provision of essential infrastructure for the residents.

Central Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that efforts have been made to reflect the cultural ethos of Ayodhya through the airport.

“In the first phase, a 65,000-square-foot terminal is under construction, with a capacity to handle 2 to 3 flights per hour. A 2,200 metre runway is also in progress, facilitating the landing of large aircraft like Boeing 737, Airbus 319 and Airbus 320, in addition to smaller aircraft. The initial development includes the setting up of eight aprons at the site,” he said.

He said that preparations are underway to seek Cabinet approval for the second phase soon. “In the second phase, the length of the runway will be increased to 3700 meters, allowing all international aircraft such as Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 to land directly in Ayodhya. The second phase will also prepare the aircraft apron for the near future, which will be 5 lakh square feet,” he said.
