On Sunday, December 10, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) National President, Mayawati, announced her 28-year-old nephew, Akash Ananad, as her political successor in the party. Currently, Anand is serving as the national coordinator of the party. The move comes after a crucial meeting of the BSP supremo with top party leaders, and in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

For now, Mayawati will continue to serve as the national president of the party.

Anand had made his political debut back in 2017 during a political rally in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. In 2019, he had addressed his first political rally from the dais of ‘Mahagathbandhan’, when the BSP was contesting the election against the Congress and the BJP. Akash is an MBA graduate from London. He helped the party to fight a good election in the recent assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.

Akash Anand is Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar’s son, and has been politically groomed by the BSP supremo herself. A supporter and follower of Dr BR Ambedkar, Akash stands for education, equality, and empowerment.
