Kolkata: Minister of Coal and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi has launched the centralised claim processing and settlement portal of the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO).

CMPFO is the organisation rendering services to 337184 Provident Fund subscribers and 610751 pensioners as on December 31, 2023.

It is also the custodian of the funds of the primary employers of coal companies.

This portal will enhance transparency and facilitate redressing grievances related to the claim of provident funds.

This portal will replace the current process of claiming the provident fund manually.

This apart, the minister inaugurated various CSR initiatives undertaken by Coal India Limited.

These include :

1. Digital education through smart classes and computer labs in order to strengthen the education infrastructure of the districts, where CIL has its operations, Coal India engaged with Education Consultants India Limited (EDCIL), a Miniratna PSU, who have experience in the delivery of smart class solutions for providing smart classrooms and computer labs in all the government higher secondary (Class XII) schools in Jharkhand.Under this CSR initiative, CIL extended support to 200 schools with an estimated cost of ₹27.08 crores.

2. Setting up multi-skill development institutes:

Providing skill training to the youth of communities in and around coalfields is a priority with Coal India Limited’s CSR initiatives. However, it is often seen that there is a reluctance amongst youth to travel to far-off places to acquire skills. The gap between skills needed in the market and the skills available to youth, especially in coalfield areas, continues to exist. To deal with the problem, CIL has planned to set up one multi-skill training center in each subsidiary company of CIL with the technical partnership of the National Skill Development Corporation.

The project will be done in two phases across subsidiaries of CIL. The pilot project is to start in CCL & BCCL in 2024–25.

To optimize the cost of setting up the center, the subsidiary companies shall explore the existing infrastructure available and refurbish or renovate it to suit the requirements of MSDI.

These institutes will provide skills for job roles that are identified on the basis of baseline survey and market needs and imparted through expert training partners. The entire program will be monitored through the NSDC.

3. Skill training of 655 unemployed candidates in peripheral areas of CIL by Tata STRIVE.Skill training is a priority sector with Coal India Limited’s CSR initiatives since it prepares the youth of peripheral areas of mining districts for gainful employment, leading to their economic well-being.Tata Strive, an organization under Tata Trust, has credible past experience in the skill-building sector with impacting at least 1 million people (Direct + Indirect) by their training programs. Tata strive has experience of undertaking projects for PSUs and Govt Partners.o During 2023 CIL has undertaken a pilot project for training of 100 youth in Nagpur (40 Asst Electricians) and Varanasi (60- hospitality) centres for beneficiaries mobilised from NCL and WCL operational areas along with local youth.Considering the performance of the pilot phase, CIL has signed an MOU for Training of 655 candidates from peripheral areas of Coal India Ltd’s operational areas in 5 job roles viz., Commis Chef, F&B Steward, Housekeeping & Front Office Associate in 4 centers- Nagpur, Varanasi, Kamrup,Assam & Chindwara, Maharashtra .
