ISL: Dimitrios Petratos wins back-to-back player of month awards

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan Super Giant forward Dimitrios Petratos continues to shine in the Indian Super League (ISL), clinching his second consecutive Player of the Month award.

He maintained his pivotal role within the team throughout April, contributing significantly to their three consecutive victories, ultimately securing their first ISL League Shield.

Petratos scored a goal and provided three assists across four matches in April, including setting up both goals in the final league game against Mumbai City FC.

In their significant win over Bengaluru FC, he delivered one assist and he secured the solitary winning goal against Punjab FC, further underlining his value to the team.

It has indeed been an exceptional season for Petratos, with involvement in 16 goals across 20 league matches, scoring 10 and assisting in six.

Notably, he has provided either a goal or an assist in every game since March, including an assist in the first leg of the semi-final against Odisha FC. He’ll undoubtedly aim for another stellar performance in the second leg to stage a comeback against the Kalinga Warriors.

The award selection process involves a split between fan and expert voting, with fans’ votes accounting for 50% of the total and experts determining the remaining 50%. The voting took place from April 22 to 26.

Nominees included Petratos and his Mohun Bagan SG teammate Hector Yuste, as well as players from other clubs such as FC Goa’s Noah Sadaoui and Carlos Martinez, Mumbai City FC’s Lallianzuala Chhangte, Punjab FC’s Madih Talal, and NorthEast United FC’s Parthib Gogoi.

Petratos secured a commanding 52% of the fan votes, with Sadaoui trailing at 18%. Chhangte came in third with 12%, followed by Talal (6%), Gogoi (6%), Yuste (5%), and Martinez (1%).

The Aussie was the outright winner among the experts as well, garnering six votes, while Sadaoui and Talal received two and one vote respectively.

After combining both sets of votes, Petratos emerged as the winner with 60%, followed by Sadaoui and Talal, who came second and third with 20% and 8% of the votes respectively.

Petratos becomes the second player to achieve back-to-back wins of the award this season, following Adrian Luna’s feat in October and November.
