In a world often divided by religious boundaries, my journey as an Indian Christian visiting temples stands as a testament to the profound philosophy of India and Sanatana Dharma, which embraces and respects all spiritual paths. My cultural and ethnic identity is deeply rooted in the Indian philosophy that all religions are different routes to the same divine destination, and this belief has guided my spiritual journey.

Sanatana Dharma is not just a religion and neither it is a way of life, instead, it is the very essence of life. It is founded on the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – the world is one family. This inclusive philosophy emphasizes that every religion is a valid path to the divine, fostering an environment where diverse beliefs can coexist harmoniously. This spiritual pluralism is a cornerstone of Indian culture, where various religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Christianity, and Islam have thrived for centuries.

Living in India, my identity is a tapestry woven with the threads of its rich and diverse cultural heritage. The festivals, traditions, and values of Indian society have shaped my worldview. Despite being a Christian, the teachings of Sanatana Dharma resonate deeply with me. This influence is evident in my appreciation for the universal truths present in Indian philosophy, such as the interconnectedness of all beings, the pursuit of righteousness (Dharma), and the importance of selfless service (Seva).

My visits to temples are driven by a sense of reverence and curiosity. Temples in India are not just places of worship but also centers of art, culture, and community. Each temple visit is a journey into the heart of India’s spiritual legacy. The architecture, rituals, and serene ambiance of temples provide a space for introspection and connection with the divine, transcending religious labels.

In temples, I have found a profound sense of peace and a deeper understanding of the universal truths that underlie all faiths. The rituals and chants, though different from those in my Christian practice, evoke a sense of the sacred and the eternal. They remind me that at the core of every religion lies a quest for truth, love, and understanding.

My experiences in Indian temples have reinforced my belief that spirituality transcends religious boundaries. The philosophy of Sanatana Dharma, with its inclusive and respectful approach to different faiths, has taught me that all religions are expressions of the same divine reality. This understanding has enriched my Christian faith, allowing me to appreciate the spiritual insights of other traditions without feeling any conflict.

In a world where religious intolerance often leads to division, the Indian philosophy of respecting all paths to the divine offers a beacon of hope. It is a reminder that despite our different beliefs and practices, we are all part of a larger spiritual journey. By embracing this inclusive outlook, we can foster a more compassionate and harmonious world.

Visiting temples as a Christian is not just an act of spiritual exploration but a celebration of the rich cultural and philosophical heritage of India. It is a journey that acknowledges the wisdom of Sanatana Dharma, which teaches that all religions are different paths leading to the same divine truth. In embracing this philosophy, I find a deeper connection to my cultural roots and a more profound appreciation for the spiritual unity that binds us all.

The Holy Bible in the Beatitudes Matthew Chapter 5:8 ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.’ Embracing all faiths without being judgemental but allowing for wisdom to guide you on your spiritual journey is true form of purity of heart.
