New Delhi: Congress MP from Manipur Alfred Kanngam S Arthur on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha to support the people of Manipur and ensure justice and accountability for all actions.
Participating in the discussion on the “Glorious Journey of 75 years on the Constitution of India” in Lok Sabha, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur said that the people of Manipur have been undergoing several atrocities which is an attack against humanity.
He said that the country was inching towards becoming the third largest economy in the world. “What will that economy achieve without its people?” he asked.
He said , “This is not a war against either party—be it the treasury or the opposition. This is a war against humanity in our country. Please wake up and speak to your people,” the Congress member said.
Participating in the debate, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said that the attackers of the Constitution were today claiming to be “champions of the Constitution”.
He said the Congress never considered India as a nation but as an Union of states which is an attack on the Constitution.
DMK’s A Raja asked as to what was the contribution of BJP and the RSS in the making of the Constitution.
He said that democracy alone was was assaulted during MISA but “under the BJP six elements — democracy, secularism, rule of law, equality, federalism, judicial impartiality have been lost”.

She said, “It is a document which has guided the world’s largest democracy for 75 years. There is a perception that it is a modern concept. The Indian Constitution is embedded in our ancient culture.”
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that Since BJP since came to power in 2014, the Constitution has been regarded in the real sense.
Congress member Kodikunnil Suresh praised his party calling it as a has been the torch-bearer of constitutional values since Independence.
He said that the Congress party brought the RTI, RTE and MGNREGA but under the BJP rule the Constitution has been attacked.
He also accused the party of destroying the fundamental of cooperative federalism.
