Madras HC directs pol parties to remove flag poles from public places

Chennai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has dismissed a batch of writ pleas while directing all the political parties to remove their party flag poles erected in public places.

Mr Justice GK Ilanthirayan, while dismissing the pleas with directions, said all parties,
communal and religion leaders should remove their own flag poles situated in NHAI,
SH, Local bodies limits etc. in government poramboku lands (public places)., throughout
Tamil Nadu within a period of 12 week.

If this order, issued on Monday evening, is not complied with and the flag poles are not
removed, the government officials should take action to issue notice for 2 weeks to remove
the flag poles, with costs to be collected from the parties.

The Judge further directed the government not to give permission to erect flag pole to any
parties in government lands, an official release said.

It also further directed the government to form rules for erecting flag poles at patta lands and asked the Court Registry to send orders to all districts collectors in this regard.
