New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Union Budget 2025-26, saying it focuses on strengthening the agriculture sector and boosting the rural economy.

Addressing the post-budget webinar on agriculture and rural prosperity, Modi said,” We consider agriculture as the primary engine of development and our aim is to ensure that no farmer is left behind”

“We are working towards two major goals, first, the development of the agricultural sector and second is the prosperity of villages”.

Sharing some data on the Agriculture sector, he said, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi was launched 6 years ago, and approximately Rs 3.75 lakh crore has been directly transferred to the bank accounts of 11 crore farmers.

“We have created a farmer-centric digital infrastructure so that the benefits of this scheme can reach farmers across the country” the PM added.

Modi said today, India’s agricultural production is at a record level.

“Agricultural production which was around 265 million tonnes 10-11 years ago, has now increased to more than 330 million tonnes” he said.

The Prime Minister informed that Horticulture production has exceeded 350 million tonnes and this achievement is a result of our Government’s efforts through initiatives like the ‘Beej Se Bazar Tak’ program.

He said, we have announced ‘PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ in the budget.

“Under this, focus will be laid on the development of the 100 districts with the lowest agricultural productivity in the country,” Modi said.

The PM noted that the government has launched the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana in 2019, which has significantly improved production, productivity, and post-harvest management. Investment in this sector has increased, and today, fish production and exports have doubled, he added.
