Kolkata: Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has welcomed the state chief electoral officer’s action suspending an assistant system manager for alleged misconduct in the disposal of electoral forms of the Kakdwip Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas.

Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar’s action against Arun Gorain, Kakdwip sub-division, is based on a detailed report received from the district election officer and district magistrate of South 24 Parganas.

According to a report of May 14 last, Gorain had used Swapan Kumar Haldar’s login credential as the constituency AERO and disposed of electoral forms using OTPs received on his own mobile phone number.

Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Gorain.

“I warmly welcome the decisive action by the chief electoral officer suspending Assistant System Manager Arun Gorain for his gross misconduct,” Adhikari said on his X handle.

He also claimed that the disciplinary action was initiated by the CEO following a complaint by the BJP leadership.

” This follows our complaint exposing the shocking connivance between the ERO, AERO, other officials involved in the election management process at district Level across the state,” said Adhikari. He alleged local TMC leaders were attempting to delete the names of unsuspecting Hindu voters from the voter list.

The Nandigram legislator said,” Let’s stay vigilant to protect every citizen’s right to vote and save them from TMC’s malpractices.”
