New Delhi: In a major security lapse, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by a man during her daily Jan Sunwai (public hearing) at her official residence this morning. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety protocols surrounding the head of the state.

The assailant, posing as a complainant, gained access to the hearing by carrying a few documents. He approached the Chief Minister under the pretext of handing over a petition and discussing a problem. According to initial reports, he suddenly attacked CM Gupta, hitting her with the documents he was carrying.

Security personnel present at the venue immediately intervened and subdued the attacker. The police have confirmed that the Chief Minister was safe and did not sustain any major injuries. Following the incident, security has been significantly tightened at the CM House.

The Delhi Police have launched a full investigation into the matter to determine the exact sequence of events and the motives behind the attack. They are also reviewing the security footage and questioning the individual in custody.

The political reaction was swift, with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva strongly condemning the attack. He emphasized that such violence against a constitutional post is unacceptable, regardless of political differences.

The Jan Sunwai, a forum for the common public to voice their grievances directly to the Chief Minister, has been temporarily suspended as authorities conduct a thorough security review.
