Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day tour of Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam, with a packed schedule of inaugurations, outreach, and investments aimed at boosting connectivity, governance, and regional growth.
The visit begins tomorrow in Mizoram, where Modi will land at Lengpui Airport near Aizawl and address a public meeting at Lammual.
He will inaugurate the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang broad-gauge railway line — the first-ever rail link to Aizawl — and flag off trains connecting the state capital to Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati.
The event will also see the launch of new educational institutions and foundation stones for Central projects focused on connectivity and livelihoods.
Later the same day, Modi will fly to Manipur, marking his first visit to the state since the 2023 ethnic unrest. His itinerary includes stops in Imphal and Churachandpur, where local bodies see his presence as a “glimmer of hope,” even as demands for separate administration persist.
The Prime Minister is expected to address public meetings at Kangla Fort in Imphal and Peace Ground in Churachandpur, with around 10,000 attendees, including all 59 MLAs across party lines.
Security measures are unprecedented, with drones and air guns banned in sensitive zones.
He will inaugurate a new police headquarters, a state secretariat, and projects worth nearly Rs 8,500 crore.
Tomorrow, Modi will land in Guwahati to participate in the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna recipient Bhupen Hazarika. The following day, he will travel to Mangaldai in Darrang district to unveil projects worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore, including the Rs 5,700 crore Guwahati Ring Road, a Rs 4,200 crore bamboo-based bio-ethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery, and a new medical college project.
According to official data, Modi has visited the region over 60 times, more than all his predecessors combined.
