New Delhi: Aligning with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has extended financial and technical support for the development and commercialisation of a high-voltage 240-volt electric motorcycle platform — a first-of-its-kind in the Indian two-wheeler segment.

The ambitious project is being spearheaded by Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. The platform leverages 240V DC architecture, commonly found in electric cars, and adapts it for two-wheelers a move expected to significantly enhance charging speed, energy efficiency, and compatibility with India’s growing public EV charging network, as per a government statement here.

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak, while announcing the support, remarked, “High-voltage technology in electric two-wheelers opens new possibilities for faster adoption of EVs intended for a huge market in India. By supporting this project, TDB seeks to accelerate domestic innovation, strengthen local R&D capacity, and ensure that sustainable mobility solutions are developed and manufactured within the country.”

The project has also resulted in the development of a specialised battery pack, certified by ARAI, tailored to suit high-voltage requirements. All major components — from electronics and mechanical systems to embedded software — have been designed and validated by Raptee’s DSIR-recognised in-house R&D team, underscoring the project’s indigenous value addition.

Incorporating smart features such as remote diagnostics, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and sustainable manufacturing practices with zero waste and no external emissions, the initiative aligns with key national and global objectives, said the statement.

Dinesh Arjun, CEO of Raptee Energy said, “We see TDB’s support as a significant step in creating indigenous, future-ready mobility solutions while contributing to India’s leadership in the global EV transition.”
