Houses Set Ablaze, Pastor Injured as Three Liangmai Naga Villages Were Attacked

During the early hours of Tuesday, September 1, three Liangmai Naga villages were attacked by unidentified miscreants in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

Allegedly, at least 30 houses were set on fire, and a villager who is a pastor sustained a gunshot injury.

The assault began around 4 AM in the villages of Tapon Khullen, Tapon Khunou, and Makui Pipuram, located along the Imphal‑Tamenglong road.

As per the Makui Village Authority, this armed attack was carried out by Kuki militants, but an official confirmation of the identity of the attackers is yet to come from the police.

Calling it an ‘unprovoked and brutal’ attack, the Chaljang Village Authority has also condemned the attack on the Chaljang village in the Twilang area. As per the village authority, it came under heavy attack at around 8 AM on Tuesday, and it has alleged that the armed attack was carried out by NSCN-IM cadres and ZUF-K, and the village was damaged as even bombs were thrown.

In the Tapun Khanjou village, a pastor sustained gunshot injuries to his hand and abdomen, and around 30 houses, along with other household and property items, and vehicles, were set ablaze.

The attack followed just a day after three Kuki civilians, including two women, were killed, and four others were injured during an attack on the Teikhang Kuki village in Kangpokpi itself.
