Bengaluru: A second FIR has been lodged against Kannada actor-politician Upendra for his objectionable remarks against Holeyas, a Scheduled Caste community, here recently.

The actor made these remarks in a social media live session. The first FIR was registered by Chennamanakere Achhukattu at Halasuru Gate Police Station under the SC and ST (Atrocities Prevention) Act.

Upendra landed in trouble when he compared some people to the Holeya community for their alleged negative comments against his Uttama Prajaakeeya Party.

He said: “There are some who comment on whatever comes to their mind. We cannot do much about them. If there is a village, it will be Holageri (place in a village where Holeyas inhabit). Similarly, such people also exist. Let us ignore them. Let us not read those comments. Patriotism is when you love people,” he said.

The video was later deleted after public backlash.

Taking to social media, Upendra apologised for his controversial remarks and called it a slip of tongue. “Today on Instagram and Facebook Live, I accidentally made a wrong statement. As soon as I learnt that it has hurt the sentiments of people, I deleted the video. I apologise for my statement,” he wrote.

The complainant argued that the actor should have been cautious in making statements that hurt communities, and remembered his popularity. He should have set a positive example for his social media followers, Upendra said.
