Jammu: In view of heavy rains, no fresh batch of the Shri Amarnath Yatra was allowed on Saturday from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp here, said an official.

Meanwhile, a landslide triggered by rain closed the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district.

“No yatra left early on Saturday morning from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp in Jammu for Holy Cave due to heavy rains and prevailing weather conditions in the Kashmir valley,” said an official.

He said that the yatra was already suspended on Friday from Srinagar for the twin Baltal and Pahalgam routes due to inclement weather conditions, and to prevent a rush of pilgrims at the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, no batch left from Jammu this morning.

However, heavy rains this morning also triggered a landslide at Ramban, forcing the closure of the national highway.

“Heavy rain, along with landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, all along NH 44, in various stretches,” Mohita Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban tweeted.

She said that the NH was closed until further clearance, and the travellers must confirm with TCU before making plans.
