B’desh PM Sheikh Hasina to visit India on Monday

Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Delhi on Monday. During her 4-day India visit, several agreements and memorandums of understanding are likely to be signed between the two countries.

These agreement and MoUs will cover water management, defence, railways, science and technology and information and broadcasting, officials said.

A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka said during the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India, she will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hyderabad House for bilateral talks.

There, security cooperation, investment, enhanced trade relations, cooperation in power and energy sector, common river water distribution, water resources management, border management, anti-drug smuggling and human trafficking issues will be prioritised.

He said the visit is seen as very important amid the Ukraine crisis, the global economic downturn and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Why not these two South Asian neighbors want increased cooperation to overcome the challenges.

Earlier, the Prime Minister visited India in 2019 before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Bangladesh government has said this visit is important for both Bangladesh and India.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit to Delhi will establish multifaceted relations between the two countries, including historical and cultural ties, mutual trust and understanding.

The Prime Minister will lead a high-level delegation on the visit, which includes several ministers, advisers, secretaries and senior officials.

Among the members of the delegation are Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque, Minister of Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Momen, Minister of Commerce Tipu Munshi, Minister of Railways Md. Nurul Islam Sujan, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs. Moshiur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooq will be present.

Representatives of business organizations of Bangladesh will also accompany Hasina. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a business event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries.

During her visit to India, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh will be formally received by the country’s Prime Minister and given a guard of honour. Prime Minister will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat during the visit.

Sheikh Hasina is expected to meet Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhara. She will hold bilateral talks with Modi at Hyderabad House. Later, Sheikh Hasina will attend the Indian Prime Minister’s lunch there.
