Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bengaluru veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name in the history books by becoming the highest wicket-taking pacer in the Indian Premier League (IPL), overtaking former Chennai Super Kings star Dwayne Bravo during RCB’s clash Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday.
The seasoned swing bowler now leads the all-time pacers’ chart with 184 wickets from 179 matches, surpassing Bravo’s tally of 183 wickets in 161 matches. Bhuvneshwar’s consistency over the years and his ability to strike both with the new ball and at the death have made him a cornerstone of the RCB bowling attack.
The elite list of top five wicket-taking pacers in IPL also features Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga (170 wickets in 122 matches), Jasprit Bumrah (165 wickets in 134 matches), and Umesh Yadav (144 wickets in 148 matches).
Bhuvneshwar, who made his IPL debut in 2009, has been a two-time Purple Cap winner and played a pivotal role in SRH’s title triumph in 2016. Known for his impeccable control and late swing, the 34-year-old continues to be a reliable spearhead for Hyderabad in the ongoing season.
With the record now in his grasp, Bhuvneshwar has further solidified his legacy as one of the finest fast bowlers in IPL history.
