BJP releases list of 44 candidates for J&K polls

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced the list of 44 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

In this list, the party has announced 15 candidates for the first phase, 10 for the second and 19 for the third round of polling.

The party has fielded Arshid Bhat to contest from Rajpora, Javed Ahmad Qadri from Shopian, Mohd. Rafiq Wani from Anantnag West, Adv. Syed Wazahat from Anantnag, Sushri Shagun Parihar from Kishtwar, and Gajay Singh Rana to contest from Doda.

Rakesh Thakur will contest from Ramban seat, Salim Bhat from Banihal, Kuldeep Raj Dubey fromReasi, and Rohit Dubey from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi seat. Pawan Gupta has been given a ticket from Udhampur West, Yudhvir Sethi from Jammu East, Arvind Guptafrom Jammu West, and Sham Lal Sharma from Jammu North.

The list was released a day after the BJP Central Election Committee meeting held at party headquarters in Delhi.

The meeting chaired by Prime Minster Narendra Modi, was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and party President J P Nadda, MP Jitendra Singh and senior leaders.

Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases – September 18, September 25 and October 1. The counting of votes will be held on October 4.

Of the total 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, 74 are reserved for general, nine for Scheduled Tribes, and seven for Scheduled Castes.

The Union Territory has 87.09 lakh eligible electorates with an equal percentage of males and females, according to the Election Commission.
