Kochi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to set up a company for implementing City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

The proposed Joint Venture Company (JVC) will build a gas distribution network in Arunachal Pradesh, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supply to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers, a release said.
The CGD project, awarded to the BPCL–OIL consortium under the 12th CGD Bid Round of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), seeks to expand access to clean energy and contribute to the socio-economic growth of the state, in line with the Centre’s vision of a gas-based economy.

The agreement was formalised at the BPCL Corporate Office in the presence of Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) with additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), BPCL, and Dr. Ranjit Rath, CMD, OIL.

“This Joint Venture reaffirms BPCL’s commitment to expanding clean energy access across India, with special focus on the North-East. Together with OIL, we will build a strong CGD network to serve households, industries and transport. Arunachal Pradesh holds great potential, and through this initiative we aim to drive sustainable growth, improve quality of life, and support India’s vision of a gas-based economy,” said Khanna.

“The establishment of City Gas Distribution in Arunachal Pradesh is a significant step in OIL’s initiative to realise the vision of bringing clean and reliable energy to the region. OIL has a long legacy of hydrocarbon production in the state and, with the commissioning of the Kumchai–Kusijan gas pipeline last year, we reinforced our role as an anchor in advancing the Government of India’s hydrocarbon vision for the North-East,” Dr Rath said.
