Combing operation underway in south Kashmir after a brief exchange of fire

Srinagar: A combing operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is underway to trace the militants who exchanged fire briefly with joint forces on Wednesday evening.

The militants and joint forces exchanged fire on Wednesday evening at village Hadigam Kulgam when joint teams of forces launched an operation in the area following an input about militant presence.

“After the initial contact, there has been no fresh firing in the area,” a security officer said, adding the cordon remained intact throughout the night.

The officer said the combing operation resumed this morning which is still underway.

A police spokesman on Wednesday evening said that an encounter broke out at Hadigam area of Kulgam and Police, Army and CRPF were on the job.
