Agartala: A day after the visit of President Droupadi Murmu, opposition CPM on Friday accused BJP led government in Tripura of dishonouring the head of the constitution by letting her lay the foundation and opening petty construction like school buildings and district roads.

The party state secretary and former Loksabha MP Jitendra Chowdhury pointed out that the President of India is not supposed to be invited to the opening of the project or beginning of the buildings but the Tripura government most casually designed her program, which disregarded the high office of the President and lowers down the status of India globally.

President Murmu on her two days Tripura visit on Oct 12 and 13, inaugurated MLA hostel, laid the foundation for a multi-storied building, road improvement projects, six new school buildings, nine 100-seated hostels for school students, and IIIT building besides several other events, which CPM had skipped alleging the misrule and break down of law and order.

Chowdhury alleged that the ruling BJP had made an attempt to hide their failures of the past four and half years by the presence of the President and eye-wash the people of this state who were cheated with 299 tall promises by BJP top leaders before the 2018 assembly elections.

He added, “President might not be aware of the performance of BJP government in Tripura – how they turned all the elections including the last Loksabha to farce and bulldoze all democratic institutions.”

Moreover, the MLA hostel, the roads, and Tripura Judicial Academy which had been started by the then-left-front government were inaugurated by the President portraying the success of the BJP government and bluffed the President, Chowdhury said adding that most of those projects have not yet been completed.

“We have also seen that the President was also let to flag off two separate trains in the name of its extension, whereas these two trains started to roll much earlier,” he stated and added that the convention and protocol of the President have also been violated by Tripura government and they used the presence of the first citizen of India as their party program.

He, however, informed CPM will hold a mega rally here at Vivekananda Stadium on October 21 next with Sitaram Yechury and other top leaders of CPM, which will be the beginning of the party’s campaign for upcoming assembly elections. The rally is aimed to show the rest of the world how Tripura is reeling under an acute crisis under BJP’s rule and to display the level of the unpopularity of this government.
