On Thursday, March 21, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case. The arrest followed after a two-hour interrogation of Kejriwal by ED officials at his residence. After the arrest, the AAP leadership announced that Kejriwal would maintain his chief minister position, asserting that the national capital will continue to be governed even when the chief minister is in jail.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had rejected Kejriwal’s plea seeking the prevention of any coercive measures taken against him.

The Aam Aadmi Party rapidly moved the Supreme Court after Kejriwal was arrested, and the defense has requested for an urgent midnight hearing against the arrest of the Delhi chief minister by the ED.
