Kolkata: West Bengal Minister for Fisheries Chandranath Sinha on Wednesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the CGO Complex in Kolkata in connection with the alleged scandal linked to recruitment of teachers in government schools, official sources said.
The federal agency, probing the money trail in the alleged scam, had earlier searched the minister’s Bolpur house in Birbhumin in March and recovered some Rs 41 lakh in cash and had seized his mobile phone and other incriminating documents.
Sources said the minister reached the ED office at Salt Lake on Wednesday around 10.30 am in response to fresh summons issued to him by the probe agency.
He had skipped and the last summons, issued soon after his house was raided in March, and sent his representatives to face interrogation about his phone calls data.
In March, the ED had also searched the home of a Kolkata businessman who allegedly helped Sinha transfer funds illegally from India to other countries.
