Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday searched multiple premises in Kolkata and its surrounding districts over the alleged financial irregularities in R G Kar Hospital during the tenure of arrested former principal Sandip Ghosh, official sources said.

The ED officials started search operations at the homes and offices of people associated with Ghosh and allegedly involved in corrupt deals, sources said.

The investigators also searched the house of Chandan Louhya whom Ghosh allegedly favoured by allowing him to open a cafeteria on hospital premises without a licence, sources added.

ED investigators spent over six hours at Louhya’s residence in Tala area which is close to the hospital where

a 31-year-old lady post graduate residence doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on August 9, sparking a nationwide outrage and strike by West Bengal doctors.

Sources said Louhya, his wife and son were questioned during the ED search which ended with the sleuths seizing some documents.

The ED investigators also went to the house of Ghosh’s relative at Chimar Park in North 24 Parganas for searches but found the main gate was locked. They later called a key expert to open the door for entry.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the twin cases of the doctor’s murder and alleged financial irregularities in the Hospital since 2021 when Ghosh’s tenure started in the institution.

The ED is probing the money trail in the alleged financial irregularities in the hospital between 2021 and 2024.
