Srinagar : Levelling serious accusations against former MLA Abdul Rashid Dar, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party(DPAP) on Tuesday said that he was involved in selling party tickets and recruiting leaders for Apni Party in lieu of commission.

Talking to media former minister Taj Mohiuddin said that they took the extreme step of expelling Dar from the party after it came to fore that he was involved in selling party tickets.

“He had taken money from different leaders on promise of providing them party tickets to fight assembly elections. The party received a number of complaints against him,” Taj claimed.

Taj said that Dar, who had resigned from Congress last year and joined the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led party, was also involved in recruiting leaders for the Apni Party in lieu of commission.

“He was taking commission per head for recruiting leaders in the Apni Party,” he said.

Dar was expelled by the DPAP from primary membership of the party. “Ghulam Nabi Azad Chairman DPAP has expelled Haji Abdul Rashid Ex MLA, from the primary membership of the party, for anti-party activities”, reads a communique issued by the DPAP.

Dar, a small-time Congress worker, won 2002 election which saw a record low voter-turnout in the Assembly. Dar was picked as candidate by the party as its stalwart Ghulam Rasool Kar refused to contest the election.

Dar lost the assembly election in 2008 but won the 2014 election.
