Follow up to Coimbatore car blast, NIA raids 40 locations in TN

Chennai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today conducted simultaneous raids at 40 locations across Tamil Nadu in connection with last year Diwali eve’s car explosion in Coimbatore.

The raids were part of the ongoing investigation done by the NIA in connection with the car blast case and based on the information provided by the 11 arrested accused during custodial interrogation.

Multiple teams of the NIA, accompanied by police personnel, were involved in the search operations.

NIA sources said the raids, which began in the morning, were being held in multiple locations, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Thoothukudi, Mayiladuthurai and Trichy at the residences of suspected sympathisers of banned Islamic outfits.

In Chennai, the searches were being carried out in around five places, including Kodungaiyur and Mannady in the premises of suspected ISIS sympathisers.

In Coimbatore, where an ISIS sympathiser Jameesha Mubeen was killed in the LPG cylinder blast in a car laden with explosives on October 23 last year near Kottai Eswaran temple, searches were on at 16 places at Ukkadam, Kottaimedu, Pollachi and Kuniyamuthur.

Multiple teams of the NIA, accompanied by the police, raided houses at Ukkadam and Kuniyamuthur areas in Coimbatore.

In Tiruchi the raids were on at the residence of an IT professional Sheikh Dawood, while the house of Mohd Faizal, who waqs working abroad, came under the NIA scanner at Vadakarai in Mayiladuthurai district.
