After the sensational murder case of a 14-year-old girl sent shockwaves across the Kashmiri society, SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, addressed the media today after the case was solved swiftly, and revealed major details revolving around the matter, and how the elder sister of the minor victim was held by the police for the murder.
On August 17, the Srinagar Police received information about a girl lying unconscious in the Sehpora-Batsar area. August 17 was a crucial day in the investigation. The police team was sent to the spot immediately, and they later found out that the girl was no more.
‘Accordingly, a case was registered. Looking at the sensitivity of the matter, an SIT was constituted and forensic experts from Srinagar were called in. The scene of crime was then preserved and a detailed examination took place. The dead body was sent for the post-mortem, and a board of doctors was constituted at the hospital, and even an MRI was conducted so that all the aspects could be incorporated’, informed Poswal.
He further revealed that during the initial investigation, some statements said that the two sisters went out of their home, after which they were abducted, and then, the victim was murdered. But, after detailed investigation, it was known that these facts could not be corroborated. After CCTV footages were scanned, and following the medical examination of the victim’s elder sister, police also recovered the elder sister’s clothes, soaked in blood, from her cousin’s house, where she had changed them.
The deceased had plucked hairs in her hands, that matched the hair sample of her elder sister.
After detailed interrogation of the elder sister, she had to confess that she was the one who killed her younger sister using an iron rod, after an argument between the two, in the fields where the victim’s body was found. The rod, with blood on it, was found hidden in the fields, and was presented as evidence to the magistrate and the forensics team.
‘Hence, the elder sister of the victim has formally been arrested as the prime accused, and the SIT will continue with her detailed interrogation, and she will be produced in the court’, stated SSP Poswal.
