Gun fight rages in Shopian

Srinagar: A gun battle erupted between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday, Police said.

They said the encounter erupted at Baskuchan during a cordon and a search operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants.

“As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight”, police said.

Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow, they added.

“Encounter has started at Baskuchan area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow”, a J&K police tweet said.
