Mandla (Madhya Pradesh): In an emotion-charged appeal to Madhya Pradesh’s electorate, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Thursday that she resembles her paternal grandmother and erstwhile Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and therefore a tremendous responsibility rests on her shoulders to speak the truth and take Indira’s work forward.

Addressing a Jan Aakrosh Rally in this tribal-dominated district’s headquarters of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi averred, “Several speakers who preceded me spoke of my ‘dadi’ but you called her Indira Mata. The elders present in this gathering may remember her. You have come to hear me. I am her granddaughter and my countenance bears a resemblance to hers. So you have also come to see me!”

However, a deeper sentiment is that the populace reposed faith in Indira Gandhi because of her accomplishments, Priyanka underlined.

“You took her forward and she took you ahead – that should be the relationship between a leader and the masses,” the Congress General Secretary added.
