Gaza: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday that it had struck a key member of Palestinian movement Hamas at the Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip.

“A short while ago, the IDF and ISA [Israeli Security Agency] precisely struck a key terrorist in the Hamas terrorist organization who was operating inside the Nasser Hospital compound,” the IDF said on Telegram.

The Israeli military resumed strikes against the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said this was in response to Hamas’ refusal to accept the US plan to extend the ceasefire regime to ensure the release of remaining Israeli hostages.

On January 19, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas went into effect. The first 42-day phase officially ended on March 1, but the halt in major fighting lasted until March 17.
