Srinagar: A woman was killed and three others injured in heavy cross-border shelling in the Uri sector of Baramulla district during the night, an officials said on Friday.

The victim, identified as Nargis Bashir of Rajarwar Uri, died after a Pakistani shell exploded. Three others were also injured in the shelling.

The shelling, which also triggered migration to safer areas, was reported during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday along the Line of Control (LoC) across Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts. Kupwara witnessed intense artillery fire.

Exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani armies has been ongoing since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. While the past fortnight had seen no casualties, hostilities escalated after India carried out multiple strikes across the border.
