Murugha seer sent to 14-day judicial custody

Chitradurga (Karnataka): Nurugha Mutt seer Shivamurthy Sharanaru has been sent to 14-day judicial custody after being arrested for alleged sexual abuse of minor girls, police said.

Before arresting the seer, he was taken to an undisclosed location by Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar for questioning on Thursday night. After this, he was taken to the district hospital for a medical checkup, and subsequently produced before the district judge at her residence.

“The seer has been sent to 14 days judicial custody and kept in district prisons, ‘ Chitradurga Superintendent of Police Parashuram told reporters early on Friday.

The seer was later taken to the district hospital after he complained of chest pain in the jail.

The police in Mysuru filed an FIR against the seer under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. An FIR was registered against five people based on a complaint by an officer of the District Child Protection Unit.

The seer also was booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as well as one of the victims belongs to the SC community.
