Visakhapatnam: Rajat Patidar made his Test debut in the second Test against England at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here on Friday.

Patidar, who comes in for an injured KL Rahul, was one of the three changes captain Rohit Sharma made to India’s playing XI from the Hyderabad Test, but Sarfaraz Khan missed out on a debut.

The right-handed Patidar had made his ODI debut in South Africa last year. And before coming into this Test, the middle-order batsman scored two centuries against England Lions in his last three innings for India A.

His 150 in the four-day match against Ahmedabad brought hopes for him to get selected for the Test.

The other two changes are Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar who replace Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj. The Hyderabad pacer has been rested for the match.

Legendary Zaheer Khan handed the debut cap to Patidar.

Meanwhile, the BCCI stated that Siraj was released to manage his workload and will return for the third Test.

Avesh Khan has joined the India squad as a replacement. Earlier, India won the toss and are 61/1 in 23 overs.
