Chennai: Asserting that Tamil Nadu rejects any form of Hindi hegemony and imposition, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Saturday strongly denounced Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s audacious push for Hindi acceptance and termed it as a blatant attempt to subjugate
non-Hindi speakers.
Pointing out that many states like Karnataka, West Bengal also have been vehemently resisting Hindi Imposition, Mr Stalin said Mr Amit Shah should take heed of the growing resistance.
He also cautioned that igniting the embers of the ‘1965 Anti-Hindi Imposition Agitations’ would be an unwise move.
In his twitter handle, Mr Stalin posted a copy of the newspaper report which carried Mr Amit Shah’s remarks at the 38th meeting of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language held in New Delhi in which the senior BJP leader had said that Hindi must be finally accepted without opposition, even if the pae of acceptance is slow.
Mr Amit Shah had also said that Hindi is not in competition with local languages and the Nation will be empowered only be promoting all Indian languages.
Strong objecting to this, Mr Stalin said “I strongly denounce Union Home Minister @AmitShah’s audacious push for Hindi acceptance. It’s a blatant attempt to subjugate non-Hindi speakers.”
“Tamil Nadu rejects any form of Hindi hegemony and imposition. Our language and heritage define us – we won’t be enslaved by Hindi!”, he added.
“Many states like Karnataka, West Bengal also have been vehemently resisting #HindiImposition”, Mr Stalin said.
