The threat of strong rainfall and storms is looming large over a number of regions in the country this year. The meteorological department has warned that on Sunday and Monday, many parts of the country can receive light to heavy rainfall. As per the meteorological department, a low-pressure area has been created over the sea in north Andaman, which will turn into heavy pressure, which is expected to turn into a cyclonic storm on Monday, the day of Diwali.
Thailand has named this cyclone as ‘Sitrang’. By 25th October, the cyclone will hit the coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh. The effects of the same can be seen in the states of Odisha, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Jharkhand, and West Bengal with strong winds and rainfall on Sunday itself. The weather will also be changing in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh with rainfall in some places.
High alert has been announced in 8 districts of Odisha- Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Kyonjhar, Cuttack, and Khurda. Fishermen have been appealed not to venture into the Bay of Bengal. Probability of snowfall is increasing in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
Heavy rainfall was also seen in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, on the day of Dhanteras.
