Hyderabad: India’s 77th Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour across Telangana on Tuesday.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao hoisted the National Flag on a 62-foot tall pole near the Taramati Mosque (Golconda) from a makeshift platform, against the picturesque backdrop of a sprawling rocky fort.

As the Chief Minister raised the Tri-colour, contingents from the special police offered a salute to the strains of ‘Jana Gana Mana’.

Upon his arrival, the Chief Minister was honored with a guard of honor at the fort’s entrance.

Prior to his visit to Golconda Fort, the Chief Minister visited Secunderabad Parade Grounds, where he paid floral tributes at the memorial dedicated to the brave jawans who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. The solemn event was attended by senior Army and civil officials.

In his customary Independence Day speech, Rao highlighted the state’s advancement across various sectors, expressing that the entire nation was taking note. He attributed this progress to the blessings of the people, the dedication of elected representatives, and the diligence of government employees.

Rao emphasised that Telangana serves as a role model for the nation in ensuring uninterrupted 24×7 power supply across all sectors and quality free power to the agriculture sector. He announced that the state government had successfully waived crop loans totaling Rs 37,000 crore in two phases.

The Chief Minister further announced a bonus of Rs 1000 crore for Singareni workers during Deepavali and revealed the government’s intention to raise the wages of government employees through the implementation of a new Pay Revision Commission (PRC). To support this, Interim Relief (IR) would be provided to employees.

He shared that the government has decided to extend the Metro Rail facility to cover 415 kilometers by spending Rs 69,000 crore.. Telangana had attracted investments worth Rs 2.51 lakh crore through TSiPASS in the last nine years, resulting in the creation of 17.21 lakh job opportunities.

Highlighting an agricultural achievement, Rao mentioned the state’s ascent from the 15th position to the top rank in crop yield, producing 3 crore metric tonnes. He announced the commencement of the distribution of one lakh double-bedroom houses. Additionally, for those who possess their own land, the government would provide Rs 3 lakh financial support (grant) in three stages under the Gruhalakshmi Scheme. This initiative would benefit 3000 families in each constituency.

The Chief Minister proclaimed Telangana as the only state in the country providing 100 per cent safe drinking water to every household.
