New Delhi: While paying tributes to ‘Naatu Naatu’ from Telugu movie RRR and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ for their Oscar win, Congress President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge did not miss the opportunity to pull up the ruling party.
As he congratulated all those associated with the two movies for the prestigious award, Kharge requested the ruling party members to not take credit for the film.
“Sir, I also join to congratulate both the awardees and, particularly, first time such award is given to this Naatu Naatu and also to the Elephants Whisperes. So, both mostly, they come from South India. It is a great pride for us and also we are very proud …but my only request is that the ruling party should not take credit that we have directed, we have written the poem, or Modi Ji has directed this film,” he said in the Upper House.
“They should not say that. That is my only request. It is a contribution of the country,” he added.
Members from across the party congratulated the team behind the success of the two movies and appreciated the creativity and dedication.
Congratulating the film-makers and all those linked to the two movies, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Anurag Thakur said that Brand India has arrived and it’s just the beginning.
“India has the potential to become the content hub of the world. As PM Shri Narendra Modi ji says nothing is regional. Local to Global or Regional has become International,” he said.
While the House was in order and members paid glowing tributes to the makers of the two movies, pandemonium ensued soon after papers were laid as part of the day’s business schedule with many members of the opposition Congress raising the slogan of ‘Modi-Adani bhai bhai.’
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar then adjourned the House till 2PM.
