Toll in Bengaluru firecracker shop fire rises to 16

Bengaluru: One more person succumbed to burn injuries, taking the death toll to 16 on Thursday in the fire mishap at a firecracker shop in Attibele near the city.

The deceased, identified as Venkatesh (23), was undergoing medical treatment at the St John’s Hospital in the city, police said. He had suffered severe burn injuries when he had visited the shop to purchase firecrackers for his friend’s birthday celebrations, police said.

Venkatesh was a resident of Garvebhavipalya, and was a photographer and an amateur bodybuilder.

On Wednesday evening, a resident of Tamil Nadu named Dinesh (19) had succumbed to his injuries at Victoria Hospital.

Dinesh was working at the cracker shop.
