United Nations: US President Donald Trump genuinely wishes to end the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow is grateful for all his hard efforts, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy told RIA Novosti.

“I think he sincerely wants peace in Ukraine, and he really deploys a great effort to make it happen. And we’re very thankful for the new administration,” Polyanskiy said when asked to evaluate the results of President Trump’s peace negotiations on Ukraine within the 100-day period.

The Russian diplomat also said that it is “very important” that the US seems to “understand the root causes” of the Ukraine conflict :in the right way.”

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the phone to underscore the next steps in Russia-Ukraine peace talks and the need to end the conflict now. This call followed the visit of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, where he was welcomed by Russian President Putin
