Two earthquakes of mild intensity hit J&K

Srinagar: Two earthquakes of magnitudes 5.2 and 4.8, hit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the National Centre for Seismology said.

There was no report of any damage in either of the earthquakes, officials said.

The first earthquake hit J&K at 8.36 am, and the epicentre was recorded in Shangla, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.2, occurred on 05-08-2023, 08:36:01 IST, Lat: 35.46 & Long: 73.32, Depth: 129 Km, Location: 184km NNW of Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir,” the NCS tweeted.

The second earthquake of magnitude 4.8 hit J&K at 10:24 a.m. The epicentre was recorded in Afghanistan.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.8, occurred on 05-08-2023, 10:24:06 IST, Lat: 35.13 & Long: 70.14, Depth: 75 Km ,Location: 106km NE of Kabul, Afghanistan,” the NCS added.
