Srinagar: There was no let-up in exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistan armies along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the ninth consecutive night on Friday.

The Indian Army said the latest ceasefire violation happened across the LoC opposite the Kupwara, Uri in Kashmir and Akhnoor sector of Jammu region.

“During the night of May 2, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small‑arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor areas of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir,” Indian Army said.

These were responded promptly and proportionately by the Indian Army.

The ceasefire violations along the LoC have been on the rise since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including 25 tourists. The latest cycle of ceasefire violations began on the night of April 24–25 in the Kupwara district and steadily intensified over the following days across various sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.

The escalating border tensions threaten the 2021 ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on the LoC.
